Kettle’s Yard house and gallery in Cambridge was founded by H.S. ‘Jim’ Ede who gave the house, its collection and contents to the University of Cambridge in 1966. Displaying his 20th century art collection throughout the house, it has an adjoining temporary exhibition space and remains true to Jim Ede’s vision as a place where visitors would ‘find a home and a welcome, a refuge of peace and order, of the visual arts and of music.’ Kettle’s Yard has grown to become one of the most important centres for 20th century and contemporary art in the country, combining the collection with the exhibition and music programmes. The gallery plans its programmes with a view to making links with other areas of human interest and between the contemporary and modern historical.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton, Wakefield is an international centre for modern and contemporary art set within 500 acres of 18th century parkland. Its stunning landscape was designed as a private pleasure ground and much thought was given to the planting of trees to create vistas, to the modelling of hills and valleys and the use of water and architectural features. It was split up in the late 1940s and the estate has, in recent years, been brought together by YSP. It has a changing programme of exhibitions of modern and contemporary sculpture in the parkland and hosts exhibitions by internationally acclaimed and early career artists in its temporary gallery spaces.
