‘Gallery of Mo’ portraits

I was recently invited to be a contributing artist for the ‘Gallery of Mo’ – a website created for the Movember campaign where users can upload a photo of themselves and have it recreated as a portrait by an artist of their choice – with the addition of a shiny new moustache! All funds raised go to awareness for men’s health, specifically prostrate cancer and other cancers that affect men. To find out more, click here.

Merry Christmas folks! This year’s seen lots of activity in the screenprinting room, and along with my girlfriend Jan, we’ve been creating some exciting things for 2012. So it only seemed natural to screenprint our Christmas card too. Here’s the result…

My old man in Grafik 189

I’m really pleased to announce that this month Grafik mag has published a ‘Design Hero’ feature on my old man, Tony Forster. He passed away in 2008 and left behind a staggering amount of work – a small handful of which is featured here.

I’d like to say a big thanks to Trevor Johnson at Creative Lynx, Caroline Roberts at Grafik, and everyone who contributed to the article.

Pub-inspired invitations

Funny where ideas comes from. Upon being asked to design some wedding invitations for good buddy (and top wordsmith) Nick Hynes, I found some inspiration over a few rounds at a newly discovered pub in south Leeds – The Garden Gate – (highly recommended by the way).

Picking up pencils again

I decided to dust off my pencils recently. Scary how long it’s been but what a nice thing it is to just draw. Can’t beat it. I definitely plan to do more in future – hopefully I’ll be able to get the pencils out for a client project too. Anyone?

A personal project developed from an illustration I originally created for Computer Arts Projects’ cover challenge. I’ve been fascinated for a while with insects – most people see them as nothing but a pest, but if you get up close – really close, they’re fascinating, almost alien-like creatures. So, I guess this illustration is my attempt to reveal some of the detail you wouldn’t usually see.
